Through its FAST initiative, the CSA supports the development of space science & technologies and enables students and young researchers to gain hands-on experience in space-like missions.
Fields of research:

- Atmospheric science
- Astronomy
- Earth system science
- Innovative space technologies
- Planetary exploration
- Solar-Terrestrial science
- Food production for space
Since the initiative was created in 2010
- 175 projects funded in 31 Canadian universities
- Over $46M invested in the projects.
Over 1400 participants
- Undergraduate students: 55%
- Graduate students (master's or Ph.D.): 35%
- Post-doctoral fellows: 10%
