Through its FAST initiative, the CSA supports the development of space science & technologies and enables students and young researchers to gain hands-on experience in space-like missions.

Fields of research:

  • Atmospheric science
  • Astronomy
  • Earth system science 
  • Innovative space technologies
  • Planetary exploration
  • Solar-Terrestrial science
  • Food production for space

Since the initiative was created in 2010

  • 175 projects funded in 31 Canadian universities
  • Over $46M invested in the projects.

Over 1400 participants

  • Undergraduate students: 55%
  • Graduate students (master's or Ph.D.): 35%
  • Post-doctoral fellows: 10%
