The Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site, Newfoundland and Labrador, creates a unique experience of travelling to the edge of the Earth to a far and ancient land. A painter's palette of intense vivid colours can be seen from space illustrating a rugged coastline, coniferous forests and pristine coastal wetlands. It alludes to a nature escape of big sky, warm sunrises, endless ocean, echoes of rumbling waves against the shoreline, porpoises and seabirds playing, and passing majestic icebergs. All these elements comprise the natural and cultural landscape for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Constructed in , the Cape Spear Lighthouse has been used as a beacon of safe passage for centuries and is the most easterly point in North America. To the west lies St. John's, the capital city of Newfoundland and Labrador.
